About Salem-Keizer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy

Salem-Keizer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a family-owned school serving Salem, OR since 2011, with youth and adult programs running from complete beginner to advanced. Owner and head instructor James Puopolo began training in January 2005 after early UFC events turned him away from boxing, developed under Xande and Saulo Ribeiro and Rafael Lovato Jr. while working full time as a math teacher, earned his black belt in October 2011 under Lovato and is now a 4th degree; he also took a judo black belt in 2020. He became Oregon's first and only black belt world champion at the 2013 No-Gi World Championships, and has taught youth and adults here for fifteen years.
