Gracie Barra Shrewsbury in the St. Louis, MO area follows the Gracie Barra Program Structure developed by Master Carlos Gracie Jr., with classes for all ages, genders and experience levels and a stated focus on fitness, self-defense and character development. It is a father-and-son academy: head instructor Professor Greg Shepherd is a 1st degree black belt who began training in 2011, a Gracie Barra ICP certified instructor, IBJJF competition rules certified and an AGF and Fuji BJJ referee, with an IBJJF Master Worlds purple belt bronze in 2017. Coach Joey Shepherd, his son, started at eleven, served four years in the Marine Corps as a radio operator attached to the infantry, returned to Missouri in 2023 and is now a brown belt and 2018 IBJJF Worlds bronze medallist.
