About Forward BJJ
Forward BJJ is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu gym at 3224 University Avenue on Madison's west side, in the Shorewood Hills Shopping Center near UW-Madison, built around a philosophy of continuous growth. It runs gi and no-gi Fundamentals and Intermediate/Advanced classes morning, midday and evening, kids programmes for ages 4-7 (Little Champs) and 8-12 (Juniors), a Friday wrestling class, a Saturday gi competition class and a Sunday open mat. Head instructor Professor Cristian da Costa, born in Manaus, Brazil, is a black belt under his father Professor Cristiano Ribeiro, a 6th-degree black belt. The gym is notably beginner-oriented — it publishes a full beginner guide, lends gis free of charge and offers a free first class.
