Folly Jiu Jitsu is a Charleston academy whose instructors trace to Scott Devine, running gi and no-gi classes with beginner-tailored sessions, an advanced no-gi class led by black belt J.P. Patterson, a kids class for ages 7-12, weekend open mats, and a free weekly law-enforcement class taught by Adam Haidary of Effective Fitness Combatives. Head instructor Jeff Robertson is a 2nd-degree black belt under Devine who started training in 2002 under Relson Gracie and Jerry Brewer, and is a retired police sergeant and former lead defensive-tactics instructor for the Charleston Police Department. The gym also has a sauna and cold plunge, and its membership base spans first responders, active-duty military and veterans.
