About SKN Muay Thai Academy
SKN Muay Thai Academy was established in the winter of 2018 to grow the Muay Thai community in Pittsburgh, and occupies a 5,000 square foot facility on Hamilton Avenue in the city's East End with over 3,000 square feet of Fuji mats, Thai equipment from BOON Sport, Fairtex and Combat Corner, a full-sized elevated boxing ring, strength and conditioning equipment and on-site changing rooms. Classes are tiered from an introductory lesson through Basics, All Levels and Novice/Intermediate - which requires 25 Basics classes first - plus a Little Nak Muays programme for ages 7-12 with its own 7-level kids' ranking system, and invitation-only sparring. It is co-owned by two head coaches, Marissa Barr-Hartman, who has trained in Thailand since 2007 at gyms including Jaroonsak and FA Group, and Chris Merritt, who has competed since 2015 under Kru David Reese and coordinates the competition team's fights and travel.
