About Krav Maga Raleigh

Krav Maga Raleigh was opened at 731 W. Hargett St on 13 October 2008 by Ken Richstad, who began training in 2006 near the National Training Center in Los Angeles; its staff are trained at the Krav Maga Institute in LA. The curriculum runs on the Krav Maga level system — levels 1 to 6 on the timetable, with level 7 the equivalent of a black belt — alongside high-intensity kickboxing and strength fitness classes, a weapons defense class (handgun defense is the most popular), a ground fighting class, women's self-defense courses, law enforcement and military workshops, nutrition coaching and a homeschool Krav Maga programme for teens aged 13-17 on Mondays and Thursdays. Ground fighting is taught by Glayton Melo, a BJJ world champion who trained with the Nova União fight team in Brazil.
