Carlson Gracie Albuquerque / Coyote Team is run by Master Daniel 'Coyote' Souza, a 7th-degree coral belt born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in Belo Horizonte, who began judo in 1981 and Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 1985 under Master Rui Diniz Ferreira and Grand Master Hilton Leao Silva. He began teaching under his own name in 1996, founded Coyote Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Brazil in 2000 — now affiliated with Carlson Gracie Team — taught in San Diego from 2002 and moved permanently to Albuquerque in 2016. He co-owns the academy with his wife Professora Gabriela Souza, a BJJ black belt and decorated IBJJF Masters competitor, and their daughter Sarah Souza, a purple belt, is ranked world number one in IBJJF gi and number two in no-gi in her division. The academy teaches adults and a kids' and teens' programme.
