About The Academy MN

The Academy, in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, was founded in 1992 by Greg Nelson and runs over 70 classes a week in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (gi and no-gi), Muay Thai, MMA, boxing, judo, wrestling, Savate and JKD/Filipino Kali. Nelson, a former wrestler and 5th-degree BJJ black belt, has coached four UFC champions — Dave Menne, Sean Sherk, Brock Lesnar and Rose Namajunas — and the gym fields both an MMA and a Muay Thai fight team. Alongside the competition side it runs dedicated Foundations classes for beginners and kids BJJ and Muay Thai programs, and new students start with a free intro session.
