About Ann Arbor BJJ
Ann Arbor BJJ is a purpose-built Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym in downtown Ann Arbor running classes seven days a week — morning, midday, evening and weekend — for adults and teens from 13, one kids programme for ages 7-12, and an athlete programme for competitors. It teaches through the Constraints-Led Approach and Ecological Dynamics rather than technique-of-the-day instruction: students solve real grappling problems against resisting partners from day one. The facility has two-inch Dollamur mats and wall padding, open strength equipment, study and lounge areas with tables, coffee, and a gaming and viewing setup. Head coach Royce Miller began training in 2010, moved to Florida in 2012 to train at American Top Team under Ricardo Libório where he earned his blue belt, took purple and brown under Kevin and Brian Mahecha, and received his black belt from Margot Ciccarelli in Japan in July 2023; he also holds a degree in early childhood education, which shapes the kids programme. Membership is month-to-month, cancellable on ten days' notice, and the first month costs $49.
