Gracie Gym Maine in Windham is part of the Gracie Gym network founded by Master Crolin Gracie, one of Carlos Gracie's youngest sons, continuing a family tradition that began in 1925 with Carlos and Helio Gracie. Its head instructor is Vinicius Garcia, born in Goias, Brazil in 1991, who started jiu-jitsu at sixteen under Ricardo Favorito, trained under Rodrigo Castro at Atrium Jiu Jitsu in Goiania and was promoted to black belt by him on 9 December 2015, with training camps at Leandro Lo's New School Brotherhood; he began teaching at Gracie Gym Richardson in February 2018. A local instructor, Michael, grew up on Munjoy Hill in Portland with a boxing background before moving into grappling. Newcomers get a free week of unlimited classes.
