About Empire Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Maine
Empire Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Freeport, Maine teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo and submission wrestling, in both gi and no-gi, for students from self-defense beginners to competitive athletes. Its programmes are a daytime homeschool self-defense course and an evening kids and teens class (both ages 8-15, four days a week year-round), a Basic class for 16+ covering standing and ground self-defense, and an advanced class for blue belts and above. Owner and head instructor Josh Blakely started training in 2003 under Jay Jack — Amal Easton's first black belt — taught full-time in Nashville, and earned his black belt from Helio "Soneca" Moreira in April 2016 before returning to Maine to found Empire; brown belt Doug Van Pelt also teaches.
