About Ascension Athletics - Mixed Martial Arts
Ascension Athletics MMA & BJJ is at Bristol Commons Plaza in Bristol, Connecticut and runs three programmes — Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA and a striking programme blending kickboxing, boxing and Muay Thai — each split by age, with BJJ for Minis (5-7), Juniors (8-12), Teens (13-14) and Adults (15+), MMA for kids and teens (8-14) and teens and adults (15+), and judo from 13. The BJJ programme centres on grappling and wrestling with a focus on no-gi, though gi is included in kids' and adults' sign-up gear. Owner and head instructor Jeff Haddad began training in 1999, has taught since 2006 including coaching a high school wrestling team to multiple championships, opened Ascension in 2016, and is a two-time IBJJF world champion, an undefeated professional fighter and a former pediatric and occupational therapist. The school runs a scholarship programme funded by local Bristol businesses for families who could not otherwise afford classes.
