About FoCo BJJ
FoCo BJJ in Fort Collins, Colorado runs a structured Brazilian jiu-jitsu progression — Beginner/Fundamentals for ages 15 and up, Intermediate after roughly 60 classes, and Advanced for blue belts and above — plus kids classes, morning and executive sessions, private lessons and a free weekend open mat. The fundamentals curriculum is drawn from the self-defense jiu-jitsu taught at the original Gracie academy in Rio in the 1960s and uses drilling rather than hard sparring for new students. Head instructor Troy Thomas is an IBJJF 4th-degree black belt under Alliance founder Romero 'Jacare' Cavalcanti, one of the first Combatives black belts under Matt Larsen, a founding member of the Modern Army Combatives Program and the first instructor at the U.S. Army Combatives School, with over 30 years of Army service. He leads a team of six further black and brown belts.
