About Mongrel Martial Arts

Mongrel Martial Arts in Midlothian, Virginia started life as Mongrel Fitness in 2013 and now teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, judo, American kickboxing, aikido and fitness under one roof — a deliberate mix, as the name suggests. Its BJJ staff is deep: head coach Jon "JB" Burnley is a first-degree black belt under Rick McCoy and an 82nd Airborne veteran who took Pan-American gold in 2009 and silver in 2008; Chris Overby, a first-degree black belt training since 2008, runs the competition class; Parker Conner holds a first-degree black belt with 16 years of BJJ and a decade of Muay Thai; and Jesse Marez is a second-degree black belt under Pete Sutton, a 10th Planet black belt and a Scientific Wrestling head coach under Billy Robinson and Jake Shannon, with a lineage running Helio Gracie to Royler Gracie and Vinicius Aieta to Vinny Magalhaes to Sutton.
