About Zanshin Dojo
Zanshin Dojo on Church Street in midtown Nashville teaches Wado-Ryu karate, Gracie jiu-jitsu, self-defence and MMA, and says it has been a Tennessee martial arts school for over thirty years; in 1994 it became Nashville's first Gracie Brazilian jiu-jitsu school under Rickson Gracie. Founder and head instructor Eric Silver began training in 1971, holds a seventh-degree black belt in Wado-Ryu karate and a fourth-degree black belt in Gracie jiu-jitsu, and is one of eight North Americans to receive their black belt directly from Rickson Gracie; he was awarded Renshi Shihan by the Japanese Wado-Ryu Karate Federation in 2022 and teaches in Sao Paulo as well as Nashville. The karate curriculum follows the Japanese Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Renmei and the jiu-jitsu curriculum follows Rickson Gracie, with no restrictive contracts, family discounts, bilingual instructors and onsite parking and showers.
