Spartan Academy Mixed Martial Arts in Columbia, SC is built around Brazilian jiu-jitsu — adults, a fundamentals class, Little Kids (4-7), Youth (8-15), a kids competition class and an open mat — alongside adults and youth kickboxing, a fundamentals kickboxing and Muay Thai class, and strength and conditioning. Head professor Guybson Sá began training at age 4 under his father and older brother, took his black belt in 2009 and his third degree in 2023. The staff also includes John Sturgis, a black belt Sá took from white belt through to black, and striking coaches Nate Vanbuskirk and Aidan Stoughton.
