About Mayfield Karate & Minna Jiu Jitsu

Mayfield Academy of Self-Defense in Mayfield Heights, Ohio teaches Minna-Jiu-Jitsu — Japanese for 'all arts' — a street self-defense system founded more than 60 years ago by the late Grandmaster Frank F. Kovacs that blends karate, jiu-jitsu, savate, judo, floor fighting and Thai boxing, including defenses against gun, knife, bat and chain. Classes cover adults, teens, kids and a ground-work class called Self-Defense Grappling that is open to enrolled students, plus a competition team. The school is led by three master instructors — Soke Steve Kovacs, son of the founder and now head of the system, Master Daniel Bralliar (8th dan) and Master Frank Charlillo (8th dan, and a BJJ brown belt in the Pedro Sauer Association).
