About Welcome Mat Judo
Welcome Mat Judo Club is the oldest active judo club in the Kansas City area, founded in 1969 by Steve Scott and training at the Kansas City North Community Center, 3930 NE Antioch Rd. It runs adult classes on Monday, youth beginner and advanced classes on Tuesday, mixed youth/adult beginner and advanced classes on Thursday, and a Saturday open mat, teaching judo alongside jujitsu, sambo and self-defense. The club says more than 350 of its athletes have won US national championships in judo, sambo and sport jujitsu.
