About Kraken Jiu Jitsu - BJJ & Self-Defense

Kraken Jiu Jitsu runs three Michigan academies - Belmont (near Grand Rapids), Big Rapids and Cadillac - teaching gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense with kids banded as Little Krakens (3-4), Level I (5-7) and Level II (8-12) plus an adult program, and open mats described as an unstructured learning lab for drilling, questions and sparring. Head instructor Professor Tony Erard is the highest ranking BJJ black belt in West Michigan and the only Grand Rapids black belt certified by the IBJJF; his lineage runs Mitsuyo Maeda, Carlos Gracie, Helio Gracie, Royler Gracie, Rodrigo Pinheiro, and he trained exclusively at Rodrigo Pinheiro's San Antonio academy, logging over 10,000 hours. He is an IBJJF International champion and a career military member. The Cadillac academy is headed by Professor Jeshua Marsh, an IBJJF brown belt Master absolute gi world champion and purple belt Master middleweight gi world champion.
