About Baltimore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Baltimore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded in Essex, Maryland in 2005 by Lee Synkowski, a 4th-degree black belt under Phil Migliarese, and offers adult and children's BJJ alongside kickboxing, MMA and submission grappling. Teaching is built on constraint-led games and deliberate practice rather than technique-of-the-day drilling. The academy carries an unusually deep staff — eight black belts plus a brown-belt women's-only instructor — with Chris Balint as head instructor since 2021 and pro-MMA fighter Rob Sullivan as owner.
