About Gospel Martial Arts Union

The Gospel Martial Arts Union is not a gym but an international Christian martial arts association, founded in 1986 by two black belt pastors, Dr. Ron Tottingham and Dr. Kent Haralson, with an international headquarters registered in Indianapolis. It describes itself as one of the oldest and largest conservative Christian martial arts organisations in the world, with members across several US states and other countries who teach in churches, YMCAs, recreation centres and commercial dojos rather than at a single school. Its leadership are traditional martial artists — Executive Director Dr. J.R. Russell (8th dan Shuri-Ryu karate), Board Chairman Dr. Keith D. Yates (10th dan Tae Kwon Do) and Grandmaster Michael E. Proctor (10th dan, Renbudo karate, kobudo and tai chi) — and membership is sold online rather than as class attendance.
