About Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy

Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, now at 20 Executive Drive Suite G in Carmel, calls itself Indy's first and oldest operating jiu-jitsu academy and teaches Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with an explicit self-defense rather than sport-competition emphasis. It runs structured programmes for adults, women and children, with a 22-lesson kids curriculum expanding in October 2026 from a single Kids Basics class into three levels — Foundations (5-7), Basics (8-13) and Advanced. Owner Professor Greg Eldred is a 5th-degree black belt who began training at the Gracie Academy in Torrance in January 1991 under Rorion, Royce, Rickson and Royler Gracie, was promoted to purple by Royce Gracie in 1999 after winning an eight-man no-time-limit invitational, and has taught in the Midwest since the early 1990s. Four of the academy's instructors are black belts.
