About KATMA Defense: Kombative Academy of Traditional Martial Arts
KATMA Defense (Kombative Academy of Traditional Martial Arts) has served Savannah, GA for over eight years, teaching World Taekwondo in age bands - Little Tigers (5-7), Junior Warriors (8-12), Teens (13-17) and Adults - and LAMECO Eskrima, the Filipino stick, blade and empty-hand art, for ages 12 and up in one-to-one or small group sessions. Its focus is practical self-defense rooted in traditional martial arts, and it has taught the nationally recognised R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) program since 2012. Founder George Freeman spent 21 years in the US Army, training with instructors in South Korea, Los Angeles and Virginia; he is a Lameco Eskrima instructor since 2009, a 2nd degree Taekwondo black belt since 2010, a Level 2 Modern Army Combatives instructor, former Army Combatives NCOIC for the 3rd Infantry Division, and a trained coach in the 1Touch Project and SEED, teaching self-defense to people who are blind or have low vision. Taekwondo classes currently run Wednesdays 6:30-7:30pm at the Whitemarsh Island YMCA.
