About Mat Life Training Center - Jonesville / Newberry
Mat Life Training Center in Newberry, Florida traces itself to Heyman's Martial Arts Academy, which opened Alachua County's first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program in 1999; owner Jason Cárdenas Dodd bought the school from his mentor Alex Heyman in 2006 and later renamed it. It teaches gi and no-gi BJJ for ages 4 up, Muay Thai, fitness kickboxing and MMA, competes in IBJJF and regional events, and runs free BJJ and Muay Thai classes for kids with special needs. The BJJ program is a Zenith affiliate under Robert Drysdale.
