The Marcelo Garcia Jiu Jitsu Association of Gainesville, Florida calls itself the city's longest-running BJJ academy and home to 20 black belts, with 24/7 member access to the mats. It runs BJJ Fundamentals for new grapplers, gi and no-gi advanced classes for students with three or more months of experience, a children's programme for ages 8-13, and a members-only Sunday no-gi open mat. Founder Kon Ying began training at the Renzo Gracie academy in New York in 2000, became Marcelo Garcia's student in 2006 and received his black belt from him in December 2019. The academy advertises no contracts, no registration fees, no grading or belt fees and no mandatory uniforms, and says it has never raised rates on continuing students.
